A Long Conversation with ANA[DIA}LOG'S Guido Garducci

As long as he asked questions I answered them!

Mr. Guarducci asked to interview me recently and here's thevideo he posted to his ANA[DIA]LOG YouTube channel that he's kindly sent me so I can post it here as well.

You never know how people are going to react nor did I know how many of his large subscriber base (he's based in (Italy) was going to react but so far the comments have mostly been positive over the few days the video's been up on his channel.

It's a long interview (he kept it going, not I!) but judging by the comments many viewers chose to sit through the whole thing, which amazes me.

What would be sensational would be an interview with you and Fr. Guido Sarducci.

I thought it was great. Watched the whole things and took some notes. Even after listening to records for over 50 years there's a lot of basic stuff I don't know. A primer on stylus and record cleaning would be great, though I realize probably remedial for a lot of the folks here.

At least stylus cleaning is a topic not fully discussed to death yet! (Leaving out the topic „fluids“ for a moment) It’s not so easy not to damage the suspension by too much pressure applied when using a small carbon brush…and some say electronic stylus cleaners (a safe way) magnetize the cart by their high frequency vibrations…really? Then we have the topic fluids (bad?), sticky stuff to dip the stylus in (bad?)

I only know of bad suggestions…but that’s normal. The more you ask, the fewer recommended solutions.

agreed, you can spend days reading about record cleaning, but the stylus not so much. I'm only 40 or so minutes in but did pass the point where MF says he cleans the stylus after every record with some fluid using some process.. but didn't catch if he said how he did so. What fluid? How is it applied? How much? How is it removed?

I have been using Audio-technica AT617A which is a little jar of sticky stuff. They say that it and only it should be used on the ART1000X.

For Lyra cartridges I use the company's SPT. I've been using Audio Intelligent for others including bonded Ortofons. I've been trying a new L'art du son fluid and another new one and will publish findings soon! I also sometimes use the DS Audio "sticky pad"

What about the HumminGuru S-DUO Pro 2-in-1 Ultrasonic Record Stylus Cleaner and Digital Pressure Gauge at $139.00?? After 4 months, this is the greatest stylus cleaner I've ever used! The stylus and cantilever are literally brand-new clean. I love the SPT fluid from Lyra and the DS Audio pad for kicks, but after this unit and slight learning curve, it has no peer.

Yes, the SPT for the Lyra, a rest of Styllast, the sticky pad, a carbon brush and the Flux Hifi electronic cleaner is also my arsenal. Would be interesting if the electronic cleaner can really have any disadvantage.

I’ve really enjoyed ANA[DIA]LOG / Guido’s videos for years now. He obviously takes his time and does his research when making a video. He’s so obviously not a “shill” (that word is getting too common), like some totally obvious ones out there. I thought his interview with Michael was great. As I said in my comment, great questions equaled great answers.
