Analogue Productions Announces Steely Dan Catalog UHQR/SACD Series
Seven 45rpm UHQR, two non-UHQR 45rpm titles, all titles on SACD
Full disclosure is but one welcomed feature of this ambitious and exciting Steely Dan catalog reissue roll-out from Analogue Productions. All titles remastered from the original analog tapes with the exceptions of Aja and Gaucho. Aja will be mastered from an analog, non-EQ'd tape copy and Gaucho from a 1980 analog tape copy originally EQ'd by Bob Ludwig (who cut the original Gaucho lacquers).
According to the press release, it's likely that original flat mix tapes of those two titles were never delivered to the record labels and it's presumed those tapes no longer exist.
Can't Buy A Thrill, Countdown to Ecstasy, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied, The Royal Scam, Aja and Gaucho will be released as double 45rpm UHQRs priced at $150 per copy (limited to 3 per customer).
All of these will be pressed at Quality Record Pressing. Can't Buy A Thrill will be available November 4th. All titles are available now for pre-order.
Also UMe will release the 7 titles on 33 1/3 RPM versions also mastered by Grundman, with lacquers cut from high-resolution Grundman produced files by Alex Abrash at AA Mastering studio and pressed at Precision on 180g vinyl housed in original artwork reproductions.
