Analogue Productions Releases Limited Run UHQR Reissue of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Axis: Bold As Love for First Time in Definitive 45 RPM Stereo and Mono Editions

Newly Remastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Master Tapes and Pressed at Quality Record Pressings Using Clarity Vinyl®

(Press release): Analogue Productions is revisiting its first-ever UHQR (Ultra High Quality Record) title — The Jimi Hendrix Experience's 1967 masterpiece Axis: Bold As Love - newly remastered and available for the first time as a 45 RPM edition, in both stereo and mono pressings. Both the stereo and mono versions have been cut by noted mastering engineer Bernie Grundman from the original analog master tapes, and pressed at Acoustic Sounds' industry-leading pressing plant Quality Record Pressings (QRP) using hand-selected 200-gram Clarity Vinyl. Each UHQR is packaged in a deluxe clamshell box and includes a booklet with liner notes by Brad Tolinski, along with a certificate of inspection. The stereo release of Axis is limited to 4,500 copies, while the mono release is limited to just 2,500 copies. Each LP jacket is gold foil numbered.

Axis: Bold As Love, the sensational second album from the Jimi Hendrix Experience - including Hendrix (guitar/vocals), Noel Redding (bass) and Mitch Mitchell (drums) - showcased the guitar genius’ expansive experimentation while acknowledging his early R&B and soul music influences. The album features classics such as "Spanish Castle Magic," "Little Wing," "Castles Made Of Sand," and "If 6 Was 9."

As Rolling Stone states, Jimi Hendrix was the most innovative instrumentalist the rock era produced, a wizard whose sense of technique never overwhelmed the blues and rock 'n' roll spirit that was the underpinning of his genius. He improvised with the fervor of a born jazzman; he philosophized like the most cosmic rocker, but ultimately his basics were rooted in soul, a reflection of the chitlin circuit, where he cut his teeth.

Recorded at Olympic Studios in London by Eddie Kramer, Axis: Bold As Love expanded Jimi's six-string flame with celestial clarity, and also brought his rapidly evolving songwriting gift to the fore.

Includes 16-Page Booklet with Session Notes and Essay by Brad Tolinski (Guitar World Magazine)

Stereo release limited to 4,500 copies; Mono limited to 2,500 copies

About Clarity Vinyl

LP vinyl is not black in its pure state. The off-white color of the record you are about to listen to is the color of raw vinyl in its purest form (un-tinted vinyl). The black color you're used to seeing is a colorant called "carbon black" that was part of the original compound formulation. To make the ultimate record, we decided to enhance sound quality by removing anything we believed could detract from it. Record styli vibrate (or jitter) on a microscopic level, and any particles of carbon black pigment that happen to be on the surface of the groove could introduce surface noise. By not adding carbon black to our Clarity Vinyl, we eliminate the possibility of noise contamination due to carbon black particles. Instead, your stylus is allowed to effortlessly slide down a glossy and silky smooth groove wall.

When we purchased Classic Records, the brand name Clarity Vinyl came with it. We're proud to have resurrected, refined and trademarked Clarity Vinyl, the perfect canvas for our masterpiece: vinyl in its purest form.

Just ordered the mono version. I got both the UHQR 33's of Axis Bold As Love when they were released and sold my mono copy for a good amount, then kind of regreted doing so. I like this record better in stereo, but I have a feeling the mono version at 45 is going to open up and breathe better. At least I'm hoping so. 2500 copies could go fairly quick I would think.

Nice to see a departure from “stricly limited”. I’m not convinced about the ultra high quality of these releases though. The two titles I have in my collection are mediocre at best.

Which ones are "mediocre"? I can think of only one...

I’m not refering to the program, actually. It’s just that my KOB 45 discs are off centre and my Henrix Are you experienced is quite noisy.

I know they’re still only vinyl records, but why label them as UHQR when they’re no better than any random pressing. Great mastering and laquer cut is only halfway to a stand-out record.

Anyway I’m just another costumer from “across the pond” frustrated that I can’t just ask for an exchange free of charge.

Hi Anders... Acoustic Sounds will replace a defective UHQR for free w/o the need to return the faulty disc. Send email or call them and they'll take care of you. Fom personal experience.

I’m sorry, but that is simply not true. I asked for a replacement of the Hendrix UHQR and was told to provide proof of demolition of the faulty disc (!!!) plus to place a new order of at least 50$ with which they would include the replacement.

Sorry to hear of your experience... I assume due to cost of overseas shipping factoring in. Not the same here in the US as they sent a UHQR replacement disc quickly and at no cost once I provided them with an email containing a photo of the 'demolished' original disc (actually just scratched up with a scissors, at their suggestion). Providing proof of demolition was quick and easy, and an understandable requirement on their part.

When I saw this I first listened to the Axis AP SACD. Ok sounding but not inspiring, rather boring.

Then to the R U Experienced SACD, also not inspiring. Then to the same old 33 RPM UHQR and wow, what a difference, here’s the music. Literally night and day.

So I’ll end up buying this UHQR Stereo, those releases destroy the SACD completely. That’s what record players are made for.

It would be terrific if the inner gatefold of this edition had that great portrait of the Experience by (I believe) Donald Silverstein that appears on the original British version of this album.
