Attend the Marten Audio Press Conference at Munich High End 2025
and listen to the speakers in binaural sound (wear headphones)
Press conferences are generally off limits to consumers, so I thought I'd "invite" you to this one hosted for the press by Marten Audio the Swedish loudspeaker manufacturer—one of the few press conferences I managed to attend. Why? There was so much new and exciting analog gear to cover, I hardly had time for press conferences—I'm working on another all-analog gear video.
At High End Munich 2025 Marten introduced two limited edition loudspeakers: the Coltrane Quintet Extreme (limited to 10 pairs) and the even more limited edition Coltrane Supreme Extreme. Other models in the Coltrane line sit between these two.
While at Stereophile I reviewed and enjoyed a few Marten Audio loudspeakers and they measure as well as they sound good. Leif Olofsson is a talented designer and the three Olofsson brothers are above all else serious music lovers. Their grandfather was a violin maker.
The company has rapidly grown since its founding in 1998. I was given a factory tour during one visit to Sweden. I also got to tour the now shuttered SAAB factory in Trollhättan.
Marten had just moved into the place, yet a few years later it had outgrown it and moved to an even larger one. At this event brother Jörgen told me they'd moved yet again to an even larger headquarters. Though these two speakers are in the "if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford them" category, the company's speaker lines, Oscar, Parker, Mingus and Coltrane, cover a wide range of price points and sizes.
If you don headphones when the music starts, you'll hear the speakers in binaural sound. Speaker designer brother Leif, describes the driver technology used in the Coltrane Quintet Extreme, including the unusually large Beryllium midrange driver that covers 100Hz-4000Hz. There's more info on the website.
