Candid Records Issues Limited Edition Chick Corea Elektric Band "The Complete Studio Recordings 1986-1991"

five album box presents the 10 discs in gatefold jackets, with printed inner sleeves, and restored artwork in a deluxe slipcase.

The original five Chick Corea Elektric Band albums are currently back and streaming on all platforms, and as of December 1st The Complete Studio Recordings 1986-1991, a limited edition 5 album box, has been available via Candid Records. The 10 LP disc box set presents the albums in gatefold jackets, with printed inner sleeves, and restored artwork, in a deluxe slipcase. It also includes an envelope of reproduced removable memorabilia from Chick’s private archive. Originally edited and resequenced to fit on single LPs, this limited-edition box set restores all 5 Elektric Band studio albums to their original full running order for the very first time.  These albums will also be available as individual CDs.

The core lineup of virtuosic musicians - John Patitucci on bass, Dave Weckl on drums, Eric Marienthal on saxophone and Frank Gambale on guitar - created a dynamic and electrifying sound that came to define jazz fusion.

Weckl recalls first joining the group, writing, “The first rehearsal… was like sitting in a rocking chair... It was an awesome experience actually playing with the guy I had spent my late teen years playing to on recordings... Perpetual pinching ensued.”

Patitucci remarks, “Whenever we get together, it is exciting and kinetic! The music flows out of our familial relationship with a chemistry that makes it very organic. Chick’s music has always brought out the best in all of us.”

These recordings were from the early digital era so the original files were CD resolution 16/44.1, here mastered and with lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman and pressed at GZ Media in the Czech Republic. Chances are good these records will sound better than the original CDs.

Just got this box from Acoustic Sounds, will dive in this weekend. Saw Chick's Elektric Band twice from 1988-1990, knew him thru my job at the time. One of the coolest people I've ever met. The band was incredibly tight and the music flowed effortlessly. One of the Jazz piano and band leader giants in my books.

If you also have the old GRP LP’s and CD’s, please report back how they compare. They were not bad, EQ was ok and I’m not sure if just an additional remastering step helps much.

I would love to see a set of records from the Akoustic Band from that period. It's great stuff and I always preferred his acoustic trio music throughout his career (and saw his last trios twice - 2016 and 2018) before his untimely and sad passing).

The actual pressing is pretty decent, but the run-out grooves on LP3 are the noisiest of any LP I own and the labels are also attached off-center. At least they sound good (other than the run-out noise). If you are a CC fan then you'll enjoy.
