Chadie Does Dallas With ZZ Top's "Tres Hombres" UHQR—At Audio Concepts May 16th!

three sessions: at 11AM, 1PM and 3PM reserve your spot now!

The vinyl faithful show up in large numbers when Chad Kassem comes to town to play records at an audio store. They know they are in for good music, good sound and inimitable Chad stories.

ZZ Top's Tres Hombres just released as a UHQR will be a highlight but Chad will be bringing a whole lot of other records to Dallas' Audio Concepts on May 16th, including some probably not yet released and he'll be playing those too.

I participated in one of these Chad listening parties at Innovative Audio in NYC and the big listening room still reverberates with the sound of Tab Benoit's Blue Heaven Studio live performance. I sure hope Chad brings that record!

I was invited to this one too and it would have been fun but I can't go so I hope some Dallas area Tracking Angle readers will attend and report back on what they heard and how the event went. Reserve your spot now!

I'm really looking forward to this release, and I love the AcousticSounds YouTube video where Chad and Matthew talk about some of the details, like how the tape sounds and what they did during mastering.

Chad says in the video, that the record was cut flat (just as Hoffman said the old AcousticSounds SH/KG cut was cut flat). Both obviously sounding different in tonality. So indeed what customers and reviewers often think to identify (bloated, boosted or pushed this or that frequency spectrum on the one or other version), in such cases where both are flat cuts, just seems to be depending on mastering gear differences? Would love to hear from a mastering expert what in fact causes such perceived tonality differences if not EQ changes.

I even wouldn’t be surprised, if the engineers of the completely different sounding VMP and Rhino releases say, there’s were also cut flat.

I attended the listening event today, and it was so much fun. There were three different sessions during the day, and all were full with only standing room left. The new Tres Hombres pressing indeed is amazing, and we also got samples of various Marley, Hendrix, Dean Martin, and other records Chad wanted to show off and discuss. He was hilarious as well ("This ain't Burger King. You get the sumbitch MY way! LOL") It was also a lot of fun to hear these great pressings on amazing equipment I wouldn't otherwise experience. Huge thanks to Audio Concepts for hosting. I hope there's more events like this around Dallas in the future.
