Definitive Sound Series Gets Retail Store Distribution and Announces New Titles

Seven Titles from the Audiophile One Step Series Arrive at Independent Record Stores June 26 Upcoming Releases Include A Perfect Circle, Marvin Gaye, and Hole

LOS ANGELES, CA — May 20, 2026 – Interscope-Capitol Records today announces that seven titles from its acclaimed Definitive Sound Series (DSS) will arrive at independent record stores nationwide June 26, marking the premium audiophile line’s first expansion beyond direct-to-consumer.

 The initial wave of titles, released in succession since last fall, spans genres and generations, underscoring the breadth of the series. Titles arriving at indie retail stores include: The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, blink-182'Enema of the State, Beck’s Morning Phase, Lionel Richie Can’t Slow Down, Nat King Cole The Christmas Song, Dr. Dre The Chronicand A Perfect Circle’s Mer de Noms

 Each Definitive Sound Series release is a numbered, limited-edition pressing, with no future repressing planned once inventory is exhausted. R.E.M.'s Chronic Town/Murmur has already sold out and will not be included in the indie retail rollout. 

 Launched as a high-end vinyl initiative spotlighting landmark albums from across the label’s storied catalog, the Definitive Sound Series has quickly earned praise from leading audiophile outlets. The Tracking Angle noted that the series puts you in the room with the music,” while Analog Planet highlighted its “remarkable depth and dimensionality.” Audiophile Audition called the releases “demonstration-quality pressings,” and Sharp Notes praised the series’ “meticulous attention to detail from source to presentation.”

 Individual releases have drawn standout acclaim. Of Dr. Dre’s The ChronicThe Tracking Angle noted the One Step edition brings “Dre’s spectacular 3D production into your room—like you’ve never heard it,” while also hailing The Beach Boys as the “best sounding Pet Sounds ever released.” With coverage for all titles highlighting the series ability to reveal new layers, space, and tonal richness within revered recordings. 

 The Definitive Sound Series (DSS) sets a benchmark for modern audiophile vinyl, using a meticulous process that preserves every detail of the original recording. Sourced from the best available masters and pressed on Neotech VR900 DS 180-gram high-definition vinyl, each release utilizes the state-of-the-art One Step process, eliminating multiple plating stages to preserve exceptional clarity, depth, and dynamics. Every numbered edition includes a certificate of authenticity detailing the mastering, plating, and pressing chain, and premium archival packaging designed for collectors and discerning listeners, showcasing the pinnacle of vinyl craftsmanship. 

 The move to indie retail underscores Interscope-Capitol’s continued investment in the vinyl community and the independent stores that have long championed the format, reflecting a frontline approach to catalog by reintroducing iconic albums with renewed visibility, care, and cultural presence.
