Matthew Sweet Suffers Debilitating Stroke While On Tour
Intervention Records Team reaches out to fans for support
Just in from Intervention Records:
It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news that our longtime friend and musical inspiration, Matthew Sweet, suffered a debilitating stroke this past week while on tour in Toronto. What was meant to be a national celebration of his music has been tragically interrupted by this unforeseen event, forcing Matthew off the road and into a long and uncertain path to recovery.
Without insurance or touring income, he now faces immense medical expenses, and we are reaching out to his family, friends, and fans for financial support during this difficult time.
The incredible doctors in Toronto saved Matthew's life, but his treatment is far from over. He needs to be transported back to the U.S. via an ambulance plane and placed in a specialized rehabilitation center where he will receive round-the-clock care for the next six weeks, followed by months of extensive therapy.
The total cost is expected to reach a quarter of a million dollars, and we humbly ask for any donation you can offer to help him on this journey. Your love, support, and generosity will mean everything to Matthew; we know he will forever be grateful.
With Gratitude,
Shane and the entire team at Intervention Records. There's a GoFundMe page where you can donate. The goal of $250,000 is close to having been reached. A few Tracking Angle readers can put the effort over the top.
For those unfamiliar with Sweet's story: he released a series of acclaimed but commercial unsuccessful mid-80's albums and then signed to Zoo Entertainment. His 1991 album Girlfriend featuring Richard Lloyd, Robert Quine Greg Leisz as well as Amy Ray and Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls), was his breakthrough album. It was later reissued by Classic Records' Rock the House imprint and more recently in 2018 by Intervention along with 100% Fun, Altered Beast and Son of Altered Beast.
