Neil Young + Crazy Horse 2023 Recording of Old Songs For RSD and Beyond

album title "FU##IN' UP" kind of sums it up

Neil with Crazy Horse (Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, Micah Nelson and Nils Lofgren) recorded a bunch of old tunes last year giving them new song titles and performing them in an old guy's slop-fun way (at least based on the stream I was given access to). The appropriate album title is FU##IN' 'UP".

Excerpts provided from Neil's sleeve notes:

“Why do these old songs live so vividly now? They do to me.”

“In the spirit it’s offered…made this for the Horse lovers. I can’t stop it. The horse is runnin’. What a ride we have. I don’t want to mess with the vibe. I am so happy to have this to share.”

Neil Young with Crazy Horse in all their “Ragged Glory”.

Neil & The Horse have played together for over 50 years and the performances of these songs is a true highlight of that long relationship.

9 songs on 2 LPs, with the original song titles replaced with selected lyrics. (“Farmer John”, being a cover, retains its original title.)

I'm assuming "Neil&" is HTML code that made it into the quote, but I don't know what's going on here because it also says:

Release Date: Apr 20, ’24 RSD Ltd Ed.

Release Date: Apr 26, ‘24 all formats + black vinyl

But it doesn't say what's different about the limited edition coming April 20th and what you get if you buy it on April 26th.

Produced by: Volume Dealers: Niko Bolas & Neil Young
Recorded by: Tim Mulligan
Mixed by: John Hanlon
Monitor by: Mark Humphries

FU##IN’ UP Track List:
8 City Life [Country Home]
7 Feels Like A Railroad (River Of Pride} [White Line]
6 Heart of Steel [F.U.]
5 Broken Circle [Over And Over]
4 Valley Of Hearts [Love To Burn]
3 Farmer John
2 Walkin’ In My Place (Road Of Tears) [Mansion On The Hill]
1 To Follow One’s Own Dream [ Days That Used To Be]
9 A Chance On Love [Love And Only Love]

That's all I know. And I know I'll enjoy this for sure. When the vinyl arrives it will be reviewed, but I have to say this is a "ragged glory" of a FU##'D up press release. I assume it was intended to be. And if not, who cares?

Lol... all good. About the RSD release from Neil's website- "a clear vinyl two-LP Limited Edition of FU##IN’ UP will include a litho print of the album cover art."

Nice he was giving away the CD with tickets to the tour. The prices were up there though. I look forward to seeing him again after his long hiatus, especially outdoors in Chicago in Spring. I imagine that he'll release another 20 LP's this year to fully impoverish me. As long as they're as 'deep' as Dume, I'm good with it. As you have reviewed, I think everything from his archives are fantastic and were absolute must-haves for fans.

Neil is one that takes sound seriously, his reissues cut by Chris Bellman are as good as it gets!

It might be a good idea NOT to read Fremer's articles then....and while you're at it, you most definitely SHOULDN'T be listening to Neil Young or a very large slew of other artists.

fortunately, America is sane, so Trump ain't winning, and Neil can continue living in California.
