In addition to let people' fly their own freak flags,' IMO these design-themed turntables could help to expand the 'allure' of the vinyl lifestyle to people listening to lps and therefore help to cultivate a critical mass of enthusiasts to help vinyl grow or at least maintain its market, IF (and this is a big 'IF') these designs can be released in cheaper editions- 2K for a turntable is a LOT (and generally just too much) for people who are young or otherwise not audiophiles with deep pockets. Pro-ject makes more-or-less entry level 'tables, so why not provide an option like this at that level? Beyond that, though I'm not a huge fan of the album, I think the table has a really cool design! I could also imagine Rega having put out something like this design- and hey, DSOTM IS an album by an English band, and Rega IS an English company. But someone needs to make a $300 or $400 edition of such a 'table. Just sayin'...

this DSOTM turntable is more high-tech with the lights and the acrylic tonearm, so the higher price makes sense. the 'yellow submarine' and 'sgt pepper' turntables were/are pretty reasonably priced.

Understood- I wasn't suggesting that the table wasn't worth it, simply that with that price point, it wouldn't serve to potentially help bring more people into the world of lp playing. It would be neat if Pro-Ject or another company were to formulate a DSOTM design retaining some of the look of this one, but at a several-hundred-dollar price point, given the iconic status of the album plus its iconic cover art.

And hey, when is SME going to release a Black Sabbath-themed turntable? Okay, never? Just checking.

It looks very cool but I've always wondered about these 'special editions' if they are truly innovative or more a marketing play.. It is amazing how many dozens of turntables Heinz and his team makes... Mind numbing actually.. No other manufacturer even comes close to making close to 50+ different models !

    Really lovely!

But, can I play Atom Heart Mother on it, too?

Currently, no. However, Pro-Ject plans to release a leather-clad MM ("Mother's Milk) cartridge soon, which will allow it. Cheers.

Where's the dust cover ?! But seriously this thing is too cool to pass up. I want one- don't care how it sounds or that I have a perfectly fine system table already.... Kudos to Pro-Ject!

It does need a dust cover. Moon dust contains silicate and is quite dangerous.
