Rega Introduces Slew of New Products at Recent Bristol U.K. Show

At the recent U.K. Bristol Audio Show (where the kids are sharp as a pistol when they do the Bristol Stomp), the joint was jumping with Rega Research product debuts. Let's start with the new P6RS pictured in the lead photo.

The Rega Planar 6 RS Edition is constructed using the company's unique Tancast 8 foam core plinth finished with an aluminium metal skin HP laminate and matching edging. This assembly creates a highly rigid ultra-light platform, ideal for mounting advanced components whilst reducing resonance. Like the standard Planar 6, the RS Edition includes a custom matched Neo MK2 PSU, and a hand tuned low noise 24v motor which drives the aluminium sub platter. In addition, this is now driven via an upgraded CNC twin drive pulley and two Rega Reference EBLT drive belts for improved accuracy and speed control. To complete the package, the precision RB880 tonearm (usually found on the Planar 8) is supplied mounted with the highly acclaimed Nd9 moving magnet cartridge to complete the ultimate Planar 6 package. ND9 Moving Magnet Cartridge

The Rega Nd moving magnet cartridge range (announced in the Spring of 2024) has proven a huge success since launch, with Rega shipping in excess of 35,000 units globally. Today we are pleased to announce a new member of the Rega Nd moving magnet family, the reference Nd9. Utilising our expertise in cartridge development and cantilever design, our engineers have taken our moving magnet technology to the highest performance level. The Nd9 uses our innovative Neodymium magnet technology combined with a Boron cantilever and fine line profile, an assembly usually reserved for high-end moving coils.

Boron Cantilever & stylus profile

The main challenge we faced creating Nd9 was connecting the Nd magnet to a Boron rod. This was achieved by working with a highly skilled watchmaker to manufacture an ultra-fine connecting tube with different diameters at each end. The Nd9 boron cantilever is fitted with a precision perfect fine line nude diamond stylus. This assembly provides the optimum tracking accuracy and extracts maximum levels of detail from the vinyl surface. Boron is exceptionally light, which allows for faster reaction to the changes in record surface and is highly rigid for its mass. A more rigid cantilever bends less, so it transmits motion from the groove more accurately with notably less distortion. U.K. price: £695.

Rega AOS MC Phono Preamplifier

The AOS is a dedicated no compromise fully adjustable moving coil pre-amplifier using a circuit design based heavily on our award-winning AURA reference MC phono stage. Housed in a custom made Rega half width case, the AOS will deliver exceptional definition and greater realism to all of your recordings, bringing your favourite vinyl to life. Designed to work with a wide range of moving coil cartridges it has plenty of gain for low output MC’s and excellent load adjustability making it the perfect partner for whichever Moving Coil you are using.

PURE ANALOGUE

The Aos is a two stage “all analogue amplifier” with no digital control circuitry. The fully aluminium case screens the internal circuit from any stray RFI signals. Our designers have avoided including any unnecessary components or circuits that may degrade the signal path. The AOS incorporates many innovative design ideas including a self-adjusting servo control which compensates for any variations in ambient or operating temperature.

The AOS utilizes parallel connected, low noise FETs (Field Effect Transistors) configured as a compound pair. The use of FET transistors ensures there is no bias current flowing in the cartridge coil so as not to upset the delicate magnetic geometry of the cartridge. The MC input has the provision for selecting resistive input loading of 70 Ω to 400 Ω and capacitive loading of 1000 pF to 4300 pF. The input sensitivity can be changed by 6 dB via the back panel. An automatic standby feature has also been added which puts the unit to sleep after a period of no signal. This can be deactivated via dip switches located on the rear panel. Price: £1500.00
