Agreed. I just wasted $25 celebrating Rocktober with a Talking Heads Naked reissue that's a magnificent recreation...of the CD I already owned. Stupid me

A letter to Rhino. (and others) It drive my f*%@!%& crazy that i cannot find any source  info, on your website, on most of the Vinyl you sell.

I buy a A LOT of records but i will not give any label money if do not know what source the LP is cut from.  Ideally I want all AAA pressing if possible and i will only rarely pay money for an LP cut from digital files. Since i do not know the source, because you do tell us, i do not spend my money with you.  I previously sent this sentiment to you via your "contact us" page and was told that you did not know that info. Really? that is sad if the responder does not know or it is down right deceitful ?

I have money, if you want my money then provide enough info for me to make an informed decision.

    Example:

    Product Details,

"THE COLLECTION (1978-1984) spotlights Van Halen’s first incarnation with singer David  Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael  Anthony. The set includes remastered versions of their first six studio albums: VAN HALEN, VAN HALEN II, WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST, DIVER DOWN, FAIR WARNING and 1984 (MCMLXXXIV)."

$150.00 and not a mention of any production info, other than, remastered. Remastered from WHAT?

It is sad and really kind of pathetic when you consider that there are people out there that make a point of including all production info.

Considering the recent MOFI debacle (deception? but more importantly, then blaming the consumer) it makes me question the integrity and honesty of a seller who is not providing all the source info on the products they produce and sell on their web commerce site.

I may, and sometimes do, buy a digital sourced LP, IF i know up front, (depending on the availability of an analog copy) i will not hand my money over without knowing all the details up front.

I couldn't agree with you more. I too wrote Rhino in an effort to find out the source and pressing information pertaining to the Nuggets reissues, wanting to gift either the double LP's or the 5 LP box set to my nephew. Their response, "I don't know". Utter nonsense. These labels master CD's that are so limited and compressed that they're non listenable whereas no information is given about the LP's. On another note: Some time back I had written an indie label in the UK about a reissue asking if the mastering was different from a previous reissue as well as source information? A week later I received 30, that's correct 30, promo CD's mailed to me in Jersey from The UK with a note thanking me for my inquiry and asking me what I thought of the mastering? Now, that's how business should be done! Needless to say, I've been a customer of theirs previously and ever since.
