"The Jazz Detective" Zev Feldman Announces Time Traveler Recordings

a multiple genre venture that begins with reissues from the Muse Records catalog

"The Jazz Detective" Zev Feldman best known for his worldwide vault discovery jazz issues on Resonance, Elemental and other labels, just announced a new venture: Time Traveler Recordings —a wide ranging program of reissues and newly discovered recordings that will cross over beyond jazz to other musical genres.

For starters though Feldman is reissuing, in association with Craft Recordings, titles from the long dormant Muse Records catalog. The "Master Edition" series launches October 17th with Deluxe Reissues of albums by Roy Brooks (The Free Slave), Kenny Barron (Sunset to Dawn) and Carlos Garnett (Cosmos Nucleus).

There will be many, more released over time. With lacquers cut directly from the analog master tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab in Salina, KS, plating and pressing at Optimal in Germany and deluxe Stoughton laminated "Tip on" jackets, the new Muse Master Edition Series is as deluxe as reissues can be. In this ZOOM call discussion Feldman discusses with me the first series of reissues and his plans for the future of Time Traveler Recordings that includes punk rock greats Bad Brains! Bet you didn't see that coming!

I saw the whole video now. Will be interesting to follow the titles of one of the less well known labels. I think so far I just own a Pepper Adams album on Muse and a Bob Berg album on Xanadu.

I’d be interested in the kind of decision process where for example very good sounding albums of a very popular musician like Bill Evans (like afaik all albums on Elemental or Resonance etc) are released with a digital step and those of Muse now AAA, as even the price doesn’t seem to differ much.

Yes it’s courageous to simultaneously release so many lesser known or less popular or for some reason never released albums on various kind of “lost recordings” labels, while we’re also supplied with constant reissues of the same well known titles. I wish Zev all the best, good times for vinyl fans!
