The Lost Recordings Unveils Alicia de Larrocha’s Studio Recordings, Berlin 1968 & 1970 Released For First Time!

(Based on her Vox/Turnabout and London releases, i put down the $)

Recorded in stereo at the Saal Studio 3, RBB, Berlin, The Lost Recordings claims "These recordings were captured in the iconic Studio 3 of the RBB in Berlin, the first recording hall in music history to feature adjustable acoustics. These state-of-the-art settings enabled extraordinary recordings, preserving every nuance of her sound and intonations with remarkable fidelity."

Yes, these tapes were digitized, "restored" and cut by Kevin Gray. I'm not letting the digital step interfere with my purchase. Here's hoping.... Cost is $76 plus shipping. To order

Although I don’t prefer digitally restored recordings (and don’t think, the claim that the tapes need it, is valid that often), I’ll probably order it as Larrocha‘s 1973 complete Iberia is so good.

Clicked on the link and their website actually says 3,000 copies will be released. I bet it will be great.

The mail newsletter said 2000. I guess they do what they want. Seems they changed the numbers. Especially their connection to the actual pressing sequence has little to do with reality anyway.

Why does there need to be a digital step?

Most who use this kind of „restauration“ say the tapes are too bad and need it. Furthermore they claim how important it is to fix slight pitch variations, drop outs etc.

On the other side there are many labels dealing with similar tapes and releasing AAA only anyway.

I guess the digital step is the principle of the „restaurators“, but actually just necessary in 10-20%.

Another reason can be that a label plans releases without being able to get the master tapes or not willing to pay that.

I prefer releases of labels who get the tapes and deal with defects in a way that they can still be done AAA.
