Triple Play "Tracks Du Jour" For Memorial Day Is An Odd Trio!

just sort of happened

A triple-play for Memorial Day: first up, "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes from what appeared to be a trashed copy of Philles Records Presents Today's Hits pulled from $1.00 bin. A bit of crunch at the beginning and then wow!

That's followed by "New Orleans Shuffle" by John Fahey and his Orchestra from a Reprise promo record After the Ball from 1973. Every copy I've ever seen has been a promo copy leading me to believe the record never got a real release, but that could be wrong.

Finally you'll hear part of the American original of Mott The Hoople's All the Young Dudes produced by David Bowie and then the entire song from the Absolute Analogue 2000 reissue that sounds way better. It was mastered by Ray Staff in the U.K.. It's an edition of 1000 and this is copy #1. How do these three albums and songs fit together? I have no idea. It just happened. I'll go back to one a day after this holiday special. Enjoy!

Thanks Michael! I really enjoy these videos. Do you know the story of the Absolute Analogue label? There’s no information about the label on Discogs, or anywhere else that I can find. I have several of their releases - both Miles Davis, both Mott The Hoople, and Stevie Ray Vaughan Couldn’t Stand The Weather. They all sound amazing! I’m wondering if it was just a case of bad timing? Looks like they only released 10 titles. The late ‘90s and early 2000s was a not a good time for vinyl.

After the Ball was commercially released in 1973. At the time I was buying all the John Fahey releases I could find. It was released as Reprise Ms2145. Curiously, under the MS number side one has the number 31,609 and side two shows 31,610. I'm assuming that's the pressing number. Seems like a lot for a Fahey release but who knows. I was surprised when Of Rivers and Religion showed up on Reprise.
